Did you know you might be more Irish than St. Patrick?  Seeing as he wasn’t Irish at all!  Maewyn Succat was born in Roman Britain.  He was kidnapped by pirates and brought to Ireland as slave labor to look after animals.

When Maewyn was able to escape, he fled to a monastery in France, and there, converted to Christianity.  He eventually returned to Ireland as a missionary.  Some credit him with bringing Christianity to Ireland, despite the fact that that there was evidence of an earlier Christian presence, while others say his work made Christianity more widespread.

Maewyn eventually became a bishop, but it wasn’t until after his death that he was named as Ireland’s patron saint.  St. Patrick’s Day is observed on the supposed date of his death, both inside and outside Ireland.  Many people celebrate with corned beef and cabbage, but not usually in Ireland, they prefer their own tradition of lamb stew and soda bread.

St. Patrick wasn’t born Irish, but what if you were?  Wouldn’t it be fun to find out? and testing kits make it easy to discover where you come from and if you might just be a wee bit Irish.

To good health and happiness on St. Patrick’s Day and every day.
